"I've Never Had Sex..."

Have you ever played the game "Never Have I Ever"?

It's a fun and interesting game to play with friends and with people you've never met.  I believe the game also has different variations in the names, such as "10 Fingers."

For the over 21 crowd, it's a guaranteed good time as a drinking game, and for the younger crowd you can really gain some insight about who your friends are and what you'd like to try next.

Basically, one person says the statement, "Never have I ever..." and finishes the sentence.  Those who have done whatever the person noted has to take a drink or put down one finger.  Now, it could be as benign as never having left the country.  But it could, and often does get personal...very quickly!  By the end of the game, you'll know who's been the naughtiest of you all.

At one point, I was playing this game on a ski trip.  The majority of people were friends of the organizer, and they all seemed really nice.  Naturally, "Never Have I Ever" was proposed.  Naturally, the game started very innocently.  Within a few minutes, I decided to up the ante.  I said, "Never have I ever...had sex with a female."  As I was one of two girls playing and I knew that all the people present identified as mainly heterosexual, I thought, "Yes! This is such an easy way to get all the guys to take another swig of beer."

Unfortunately, I didn't think that this would out my friend's friends who were still virgins!  I didn't know how close they all were, and with the majority of the players as men, I didn't know if the virgins would be stigmatized.  I felt horrible, to say the least.  Though, when another woman joined the game after a couple of rounds, she also proceeded to re-out the virgins!

In the end, they were all well aware of each others personal histories, but it made me consider how personal the game can be.  Truth be told, if this game is proposed, the players better be well aware of the rules and consequences!

Of course, if people were willing to share, that's a different story altogether.

Naked Love, a series on the Sundance Channel's website, features a short where people share their own "Never Have I Ever's."  But they get straight to the point:

Maybe the next time "Never Have I Ever" is proposed, you will be equipped with some more statements.  Either way, everyone's a winner.
